We’re about to find out just how powerful the relationship is between football and sports travel.
The expanded college football playoff began less than a week ago; the NFL playoffs begin in a few weeks.
Do schools and/or teams live up to the moniker that they "travel well?" I suppose we could look at anecdotal evidence that the bowl game between Michigan and Alabama on New Year's Eve is already sold out in Tampa.
Of course, those are two of the premier programs in college football so take from that what you will.
This is a novel idea, especially for schools that have complained for years that they have been shut out of the college football postseason.
In large part, travel will play a huge part in all this. Will somebody from Georgia be so willing to travel to frigid Boise State? Eat at restaurants in the city? Purchase local souvenirs?
The NFL is a different beast altogether with an established reputation. It is a low-hanging fruit. But this symbiotic relationship we have with our schools and teams speaks volumes.
It’s almost like a badge of honor.
But will we support it?
Travel will give us one answer.
