A Good Subway System Offers the Best Mode of Transportation

Travel can be unpredictable; from maintenance issues to the weather, you never know what you’re going to get.

Exit on the subway.

For me, there is no greater, safer or more cost-effective mode of transportation than a good subway system. Immediately coming to mind are places like New York City, Washington, London and Saint Petersburg.

That’s just my personal opinion. Every listing or column is subjective. You might have something on your own personal list that I just don’t have and that’s okay.

Like New York.

This is where I grew up. So I have a personal affinity for the city. Yeah, it can be dirty and smelly, and you might see some things that you never saw before and never will again. But evading traffic and traversing Manhattan and the five boroughs can’t be beaten. Going from one attraction to the next by subway is an experience unlike any other.

The same holds for the other aforementioned cities. It doesn’t have a view, but the subway can still be invaluable.

Any city that operates an efficient mode of transportation is aces in my book. And that can be the subway, Amtrak or a seamless airport like in Pittsburgh. To put into perspective what I mean, I was once asked to take some paperwork from the office to my boss' condo in midtown Manhattan. It normally would have taken me close to an hour in a regular vehicle. It took me less than 20 minutes on the subway.

Before we are scornful of the subway systems, we should be grateful.
