Denmark Travel Guide

Denmark is continuously cited as one of the happiest countries in the world, and it’s not hard to see why. Its beautiful scenery, open spaces, and very low crime rates make it a top destination for tourists from all walks of life.

We’re sure you’ll love it as much as we do. But before you start packing, find out all you need to know in our travel guide to Denmark.

We found getting around Denmark easy. The public transport system is very efficient, with one electronic ticket, the Rejsekort, covering all train, metro, and bus services. The only metro system is found in Copenhagen.

GoMore is a Danish ridesharing service, with an English-language version online, too. We also got around just fine with the metered taxis.

Important Things To Know

Currency

The official currency of Denmark is the Danish Krone.

You can exchange cash in U.S. Dollars, Euros, or Pounds Sterling at kiosks throughout Denmark. However, doing so may give you an unfavorable exchange rate. You may be able to use these currencies in certain tourist hubs only.

National Languages

The national language is the Danish language,  Dansk. English is widely spoken here. Approximately 86% of the Danish can speak it, most of them fluently.

Time Zone

Denmark, like many other Northern European nations, has Daylight Savings Time (DST), also known as summertime.

Climate And Weather

The Danish climate is temperate, with cold winters and pleasantly warm summers. There isn’t much fluctuation between day and night temperatures. February is the coldest month of the year and July is the warmest.

Rainfall is pretty consistent throughout the year, so a fold-up travel umbrella is a useful item to pack. The wettest season in Denmark is from September to November.

The best time to visit Scandinavian Countries like Denmark is usually in June, July, and August.

We love to visit in July as it's the hottest month. Coincidentally, most Danes also take their annual holidays in July.

Best Places To Stay In Denmark

  • There are so many wonderful sights in Denmark, but you’re guaranteed a great stay in Copenhagen. In the nation’s capital, you can enjoy a variety of tours and excursions from Copenhagen to the rest of Denmark. We loved the nightlife and laid-back vibe here. Copenhagen also has some top hotels for a luxurious Scandinavian vacation stay.
  • Aarhus is Denmark’s principal port city. Our taste buds were treated to delectable fresh seafood here. The nightlife was buzzing here too, and many sidewalk cafes catered to our need for refreshment.
  • Roskilde is the place for historical sites and Viking-themed attractions. In June and July, this town comes to life with thousands of tourists from all over the world. The  Roskilde Festival turns this usually quiet town into a riot of music, art, and revelry.
