Planning a trip just for you and your travel companions can be a daunting journey, but there are ways to ensure your next trip will go off without a hitch, and offer something for everyone!

Travel Insured, a leading travel insurance company, provides a few helpful tips on how to start your travel planning out right.

It's important to start your travel planning at least three months in advance, especially so if you’ll be traveling to a destination during its peak travel season.

Make sure you consider how long your trip is, and what you’d like to see and do while you’re there. Will you be transiting between two cities or countries? Allocate some time in your itinerary for traveling between destinations or attractions.

Once you know that, it’s time to book your transportation to and from your destination, along with any accommodations.

When you’ve got these booked, it’s time to consider travel insurance! It can save you money when things go wrong, like if you need to cancel your trip due to an unforeseen emergency, or if you lose your luggage during your travels, all for a reasonable cost. Consider getting a quote to protect your next trip through Travel Insured.

After you’ve figured out the big things about your trip, it’s time to consider what you’ll do each day you’re at your destination. Make a list of places you’d like to visit and consider how you’ll get to each place, allocating enough time for small detours or things like traffic. Group your attractions by location to save transit time and money on traveling to the attractions.

Also, make sure to consider booking your experiences in advance, especially if you’re traveling to a popular destination like Paris or Rome: many attractions, like the Eiffel Tower and the Coliseum, offer a way to pre-book tickets online so you won’t have to stand in long lines.

One important note: Don’t stuff each day with too many things to do. It can be a temptation, but it’s important to mix more structured activity time with some free time. After all, who doesn’t love a relaxing day on the beach with a good book, or some leisurely city exploration?

Padding your itinerary with time for breaks like these will ensure you can rest and explore: which, honestly, are both the best parts about traveling! Doing so will also ensure you’ll have time to eat, which can be a fun activity wherever you travel, and should be savored with ample time to dine.

Lastly, consider taking along a journal or finding some way of memorializing your trip: taking photos, making a scrapbook after you’ve returned, or capturing special moments on social media. These activities can help cement the special moments you’ve made each day, and help you look back on your trip long after you’ve returned home.
