Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has officially started building a new pier at its private island destination in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay.
“This past Friday, we celebrated a major milestone,” wrote Harry Sommers, the company’s president and chief executive officer, in a post on LinkedIn. “This exciting $150 million project will enhance access to our highest guest-rated destination in the world.”
In addition to cruise line executives, several local dignitaries were on hand to help celebrate, including the Bahamas Prime Minister Philip Edward Davis MP KC and Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper.
“By bolstering our footprint in the Bahamas, we’re thrilled to create a deeper connection with the community and foster long-term opportunities for growth and sustainability,” Sommers wrote.
The company announced in April that it planned to make infrastructure updates at Great Stirrup Cay, including the construction of a new pier that will increase the destination’s capacity. Once the pier is complete, multiple ships will be able to call on the island at the same time.
